Zara Spooks
Hey guys,
I have several Zara Spooks that I use mainly for fishing Northern Pike up here. My question is if they would be of any use if I brought them down to the Pier/Surf? What about Rapalas? Just want to take the stuff that will work there instead of hauling all my stuff down. Thanks!

I use x-raps off of the pier ofter but I think the pier is to high to keep a top water lure like the spook to work properly for more than just a couple of feet per cast. I like to use the sxr-14 x-raps

Spooks and super-spooks certainly work in bays, rivers, and light surf. Early morning is best, but with a cloudy, drizzly day it can last. Rapalas too. Beware the salt corrosion on freshwater hooks which can weaken them quickly. You can upgrade to better hooks and rings, but for a short trip and rinsing in fresh every day you won't suffer. Where I get clobbered is the last day: early out on the pier/sand before driving; rod then goes in the back for the trip home, and days/weeks later when I remember the last day's lures are bust.

I don't think from the surf you will be able to cast it far enough to get past the breakers.

I have used spooks while wade fishing and have done well early mornings and late evenings but like Jeff said you can't get past the breakers from the beach you have to get wet

Yeah I remember last year having trouble getting past the breakers. Seemed to be the only one fishing, once the tied went out, I remember people running out to the sand bars casting like crazy! Course by then, I had given up....live and learn.

You will have better luck fishing your bass top water from a dock in Little Lagoon or better yet the bay side at Fort Morgan if you can get access to one. Your twitch baits will catch fish at the pier but they are awkward to cast and retrieve from so high above the water. I have caught bluefish, ladyfish, and a handful of Spanish mackerel on a badonkadonk but a Looney jig or bubble rig would be better suited from the pier.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
