Ya'll are all wrong!
I've been asking lots of questions on here lately about rigging, technique, tackle, etc.. I appreciate all the replies and suggestions. I took everyones advice and did everything Ya'll suggested to catch spanish yesterday (4-27-13). But I am sad to say that you all don't even have a clue! A guy next to me on the rail was making all the mistakes a person could make and was catching 4 to my 1! His set up: Red Cajun line, Walmart coated steel leader with the huge swivels, a Gotcha that at one time 35 years ago might have been gold with red head but now is terribly tarnished. Retrieve was a slow pumping action instead of the eratic jerking jigging action. I tried to learn from the "schooling" he was presenting, but just could not go against my mentors' (Ya"ll) advice! I actually started trying to memic his technique, but I saw Fin Chaser coming out to the picnic and didn't want to be busted and labeled a Googan. I had a great time, enjoyed putting some faces with names, and seeing some of you that I already know, and especially enjoyed the food at the picnic. Thanks to all who contributed in any way! Even after loosing several to cut offs and one wrapping around a piling, still managed to go home with 13 "nice uns".....................Sorry about the ya'll don't have a clue part. Just joking!

This thread could get good. I have lots of stories like that but I will never forget the day the kings were biting pretty steady but I could not buy a bite. This dude walks up next to with a beaded bottom rig with three hooks attached, and each one with a cig on it. He casts close to my stealthy rigged bait and guess who gets hooked up? I threw my sucker in the dirt and went home.....

LOL!
That made me think of the day in the late 70s when I first meet Andy Anderson.
He walked out on the end of the pier with a plastic lipped balsa bass crank bait and after shrugging off the snickers with a smile proceeded to school everyone on tearing up the 'axehandle' spanish mackerel
At the end of the morning there wasn't much left of that bait but the plastic lip and one treble hook, but he sure caught some fish with it!
Yeah, show me the fisherman who thinks he has ALL the answers, and I'll show you the next guy who is about to learn something new ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.

Tuck I think in this case your lure just wasn't getting as deep as the wal-mart special with the slow retrieve. But hey sometimes the cards just don't play in ur favor lol

I'd rather be lucky than good.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
