I am sure many of you have heard of the young man who was killed on the South Alabama campus last weekend. Well what many of you may not know is he was a relative of one of my best friends. He was a very skilled wrestler at one of the local High schools in my area. Any time the sport I coach and love loses one of our own it is quite tough. Unfortunatley the local wrestling community here in Montgomery has lost three individuals: Coach Dawkins who was one of the most dominate coaches in Montgomery County Junior High History, John Hayden Countryman who was the only person ever to win 5 state titles in the same weight class, and now Gilbert Collar. I have issued an offer to all the young men I coach here in Montgomery and will make the same offer to you all as well.

I posted this on a page for the young men who I coach and I want to issue the offer to all of my friends.

This photo is a representation of the young man who passed away last weekend. He was a wrestler at Wetumpka High school and a family
member of one of my best friends. He was quite an accomplished wrestler who had a passion for the sport we all love. To honor his family as well as his short time on this earth, I will be wearing a shirt with his rubber duck sign on it. In addition to the shirt, I will be keeping this as my picture on here for every match until the high school wrestling season ends. If any of you are interested in participating and want to pay tribute to a great young man, I will have shirts made that you may wear to matches and practice, as well as good luck ducks for everyone to keep in their bags until the end of the season when you can sign them and present them to his family.

Thanks

There is no need to post specifics of the case on this page, nor criticize either him nor the officer's decisions that resulted in the loss of life. If you feel the need to criticize either of these men, take your comments to one of the news pages where you are more than welcome to argue with those individuals. I am trying to honor the young man's life, not place judgement upon him for his choices.
