Thread: Wind Direction

Looking at the forecast for next week when I'm there. I see a lot of SW, WSW in there. Got me thinking. What is the preferred wind direction/strength?

NE will clear the water usually.
But most any wind direction is OK.
Strength less than 15 knots is easier to fish in.
Sustained wind over 15 knots from any direction can quickly make the water dingy.
By sustained I'm referring to a 12-24 hour period.
A seabreeze (even in the mid to upper teens) usually will not dingy the water much, and only lasts about 4 to 8 hours.

are going to allow the water to clear a good bit!

NOTHING over 13 knots (seabreeze) is predicted, and seas less than 2 feet.
Now what may well affect the fishing (adversely) is the outflow from Little Lagoon 3 miles west of the pier).
We have strong tidal movements this week, moving toward a NEAP tide period next week.
Each afternoon the falling tide out of the Lagoon moves eastward with a southwest wind toward the pier.
That often lends to dingier water with a distinctive tannin-green color that seems to push the mackerel away.
At least kings don't seem to like it, though spanish tolerate it better.
But our salinity is off by more than 5 points in general, and that may lend to fewer mackerel around.
Plus the water temperature is still in the mid 80s. Pretty warm, but about average for mid July.

Thanks Pier#r..with all that said. What would your thoughts be on surf fishing west of the lagoon at the various places (Mobile St, Fort gulfside and bayside)? Specks and reds..
This year my dad and two nephews will be joining. I will probably want to get them somewhere we can spread out a bit and not be overly crowded.

Once the water clears (in another day or two) those should be great venues to target those species.
Spoons and plugs should work well!
