When to come Redfish?

I am from Arkansas, and am planning on coming down to pier and fish for a couple of days sometime soon.

I want to bring along a couple of guys (one's a minister and one needs ministering too) and allow them to experience the pier. I know I was absolutely blown away by the friendliness and helpfullness of the pier rats. And the fishing was just awesome.

So my question is, when would be a good time traditionally to bring them? I heard several of you mention that the fall usually produced great redfishing, and after catching a 20lb red myself, I'd love for these guys to hook in to one of those.

November into December is prime times for bull reds from the pier.

What else can you still hope/expect to catch the first week of November? I am headed back down from Chicago in a couple weeks.

November is a 'transition' month.
There should still be some mackerel around until about Thanksgiving.
But they will be getting scarcer by the day through the month.
Redfish (bullreds) are usually in 'primetime' as the water cools off.
Also whiting should get more numerous and there is usually a good sheepshead bite around the end of the month.

Just hope for nice weather, and be adaptable to whatever is biting ;-)

I saw a convict on the piling last week. Been a while since I've seen one.

You should be able to catch SheepHead NOv and DEc. GREAT eating fish, one of the best, just a litle tuff to clean for some folks, untill you get shown the right knife and how to use it. Short and sharp.

Or a chainsaw.
