What's biting in August
Planning a trip down in August and was curious as to what will be biting that time of the summer?

Redfish, Bluefish, Spanish mackerel, King Mackerel, Jack Crevalle can be caught then typically. They're all schooling-type fish so whatever is "in" or traveling through is what's biting. Lots of times those runs are short-lived. I'll have one rod with a Krocodile spoon if I want to get in on the Jack/Redfish blow-ups. Of course, you can usually catch SOME flounder, some whiting and usually there are hardtails to be caught.
Here are some things that are really important: Stay out of the mid-day sun. Wear a hat and high-SPF sunscreen. Drink lots of fluids. Decide in advance if you're going to keep your catch or not. If NOT, then net your catch to release it and don't gaff fish you don't intend to keep. If you're going to keep your catch get ICE for your cooler in advance because fish will spoil quickly if they're not iced down immediately. This isn't just for you, specifically, but for anybody who visits. The July/August sun can be brutal.
One more tip: Go to the REPORTS section and look up archived fishing reports from AUGUST of previous years. That may give you your best feel for what you can GENERALLY expect.
See ya out there!

August can be pretty brutal, go early, get there at least an hour before sunrise and be heading back to the AC by 10-11am.
Between noon and 4pm, the heat can be downright oppressive, even dangerous.
Bring plenty of cold drinks, take breaks, don't be a heat casualty.Carl

I use one that is about 3 1/2 inches long and is kind of hefty 1 1/2 oz?. It says, Luhr Jensen DIE #5 on the back of the silver-only spoon. That's what I use. Other people may do better with a color that matches the color of the baitfish.
I've caught bull reds, huge jacks, Kings and my personal best Spanish mackerel (how big was it? - HUGE!) on that spoon.
It casts a mile! I'm not sure that it really matters WHAT color/brand spoon you use, but flashy spoons definitely work on Jacks and Bull Reds when they're up on top.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
