What would you do in this situation???

Brought a friend from north Bama out to the pier Saturday. Never caught a king in his life. Anyone who was there Sat. knows the bite was sssssslllllllloooooowwwww to non-exisitant. On a whim we happen to be looking off the east side of the octi and saw about a 15lber looking for something to chomp on. I habded my bud a cig and let him pitch it out there to the mack. He fed within seconds and started to head south instead of north. Right next to the light pole where we catch bait 99% of the time were not one, not two, but 3 zebco's sitting abandoned and being fished on the bottom about 50 yds out. Needless to say when that 17lb P-line came in contact with whatever was on the zebco's..."Pop". He was a bit bummed for the rest of the day. I waited for 30 minutes until the tourists finally showed up so I could give them a wicked verbal lashing about it but then I noticed they were with a mentally handicapped teenager. Another gentlemen who had witnessed what happened did say something to them and was IMO a little harsh...but what would y'all have done in the situation?

Thats a bummer. They needed to be told that no one is to leave a rod with line cast out un-attended.... I guess.... but on that straight part of the pier, I don't know,..... (is that were it was, or at the first octi section?)

In any situation being an : is pointless. One they didnt know anybetter and two you could potentially ruin that Persons Trip to our beautiful pier. Accidents happen and The Special young man or woman may never get another chance to fish on the rock. Its frustrating when it happens as can David A and DRH can attest when I lost my Cobia to a missthrown wire leader. Dont get me wrong I wanted to GO APE but the guy was just fishing.

Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

And that would ruin that young boys experience with fishing the pier. The parents should have been made aware of the rules and then assistance should have been provided to help fulfill that young mans experience. Mackerel will run all summer long, but helping a young man with a disability have a experience that may stick with him for the rest of his life may be something that you don't get to do everyday. As most of you who know me well are aware that my father is a Psychologists. I grew up going to different mental hospitals for children with him when I was younger. I remember quite well that everytime a person with a mental or physical disability would come onto the old pier, my dad would go completely out of his way to make sure that the person caught what very well could have been their first saltwater fish. He would work very hard to make sure that they had a great experience out there, as well as get to know the people that they were with, whether it was friends or family. The pier is there for everyone to use who pays their fee to fish. Just be curtious and try to help those who need it rather than being a jacka$$ to someone who is unaware of the rules, because honestly how many of you have actually read the rules on the board when you walk onto the pier.

I wasn't meaning on purpose, but i have stomped a few bait rods this year while fighting fish, also been wrapped up in sabikis, barbs and all through skin while fighting fish, just saying, and no i would not purposely stomp a rod

It was the first section of the octi, east side. I'm just glad I didn't react and it makes me feel better to see that everyone else pretty much feels the same way.
