Re: What is a Googan?
i got a quick one for ya, this one time i was at the GSP, a googan walked out there and started fishing with a zebco 404 and started fishing for king, i tryed at least 10 times to tell him that it wouldn't work, guess he didn't take to well to constructive criticism very well, typical, well when time came around that about a 25lb'er ate that ly, that little reel lasted about 15-20 seconds until the fish busted the shaft as well as just about every other gear in that reel, oh well, tryed to tell him but you know what, typical googans just don't listen! :violent :wall:  they really do get on your nerves :run
I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.

Re: What is a Googan?
Kingkiller, you're right. It's the folks who don't know, don't know they don't know, and refuse to learn that qualify for the term "googan". There's a big difference between a beginner and a googan---every last one of us was a beginner at one point. Googans revel in their ignorance and use it as weapon---"dumb and proud of it." Speaking of which, I hope the young man with whom I was discussing pompano size limits yesterday is reading this, because I was totally and completely wrong---some sort of old fart/brain fart on my part. It isn't what I know that gets me in trouble, it's what I know that ain't so that does the job.

Re: What is a Googan?
Agreed. A person that doesn't know how to fish can be a googan OR a beginner. Googanism has nothing to do with skill level - he's defined by his attitude.
Lots of googans catch fish, but that doesn't mean you want to be around them or learn from them.
Screw it. Let's ride.

lol
That reminded me of a classic 'zebco googan' back in the days on the old pier.
We tried to tell that fella he was NOT gonna catch a king mackerel on his Zebco 404 and he'd just grunt about the heavy line he had on it blah-blah-blah. :wall:
Well it turned out he hooked a BIG jack that quickly started pullin the guts out of that reel and when it froze up the reelseat broke and the reel took out all the guides on his POS rod one by one (ping, ping, ping ;-)
After it was over the dude was just standing there wide-eyed and slack-jawed with that empty rod in his hands.
Never said another word, he just packed his junk and left. :spank:
That was a priceless moment in 'googandom' :headbang: :mrt:(RETIRED) mostly.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
