Weeks Bay/Fish River
I will be off Wednesday and am trying to plan out my fishing day. I am thinking that the pier is gonna be slow so I want to do a change of pace. Thinking of hitting up Fish River and Weeks Bay in my kayak. My question would be would I put the launch at the mouth of Weeks Bay or is there somewhere closer. Also, if anyone one would want to join me, go right ahead, would like a little company especially if they are familiar with the area. Probably gonna be in the water at first light, gotta figure about when that is gonna be. Looks like it is gonna be a nice calm day for it.

You can put in at honey lane upriver, or the 98 bridge downriver also..I would put in at 98 and head upriver focusing on the larger river bends, creek mouths, and around the islands .. Good luck
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Ok. Thanks Peaches. Which side of the bridge do you put in at. East or west and on the north or south side, don't want to he driving round and round.

Scratch that. Just checked the weather report again and it is calling for north winds at 10-20mph. Don't like fishing from my yak in high winds, especially when the temp is supposed to be 45 tonight.

Re: Weeks Bay/Fish River
There's some pretty secluded spots on FR that will keep you somewhat out of the wind. If you can find somewhere near Swan Island to launch you'd have some protection from the wind and would be a pretty dang good spot to start fishing.
I'm not sure where Peaches launches at but quite a few yakkers launch at the boat launch, SW side of the bridge. You could also launch at the NE side of the bridge on Grounds RD.

Thanks for the info PNG. I might wait till the afternoon to go, give it a chance to warm up a little and maybe the wind will calm also.

Re: Weeks Bay/Fish River
If you're like me, I don't get too many days open to try and catch a fish. So i tend to go when I can, no matter the conditions. That being said, Fish River would by far be one of my first options on a windy day. The bends and the shore knock the wind down pretty good. Actually fished it two weekends ago. 10 in. Mangroves were thick around the base of the 98 bridge. Caught 3 specks first thing that morning just North of the bridge on the West side of the river. Looked to be a fair number of redfish along the river's banks. All that we caught were undersized though. Still fun to catch. And there seems to be bass pretty much everywhere.

Re: Weeks Bay/Fish River
So I went. Put in at the 98 bridge and slowly headed upstream. Started around 1 and came back at 5:30. When I got out there the wind was steady but not bad, with occasional gusts that could get annoying. Wind finally died down around 4. I went about a mile upstream and fished all over the place, but only ended up catching a few small white trout, which I released because they were only about 6-7 in. It was a beautiful day overall and I enjoyed my time out there. It was more of a learning experience though, and I still have a lot to learn.

Re: Weeks Bay/Fish River
I went yesterday and put in at the 98 bridge didn't catch trout like I wanted.. Only 6 or 7. Caught 3 slot reds all over 20" and 2 shorts, and all the bass you could ever want to catch ... 5 or 6 were up to 3.5 lbs or so.. Fun day despite the wind

Re: Weeks Bay/Fish River
I probably didn't have the right tackle. A little bit different fishing from what I am used to.
