The week is over.
The wife and I are back home in north Alabama... and it sucks. Had a great week on the pier: she caught a big red and handled it GREAT ; we caught 3 spanish, 7 lady fish, and about 50 blues. The lady fish and blues were just great fun! But we also caught 3 sea gulls and were able to cover their heads and release them from their monofilament bonds. Which brings me to my question. What's up with the damned gulls? Is there no way to drive them from the pier or is this a problem at all piers? The wife loves birds so I couldn't even throw a lure when the gulls were thick.

They are just there. i havent noticed them in any larger numbers than any other time, though. You should come back down after a tropical storm and try to deal with the pelicans acting like the gulls.

I think it was June 21st I saw a lady catch an osprey. A local named Charlie picked it up, with nothing over the birds head. He talked to that bird like it was a child. The bird just let him hold it and remove the line. I wish I had thought of taking a picture.

Re: The week is over.
I helped rescue this one Sat. It isnt a gull. This is one of those that dive a little farther in the water.

It just seems with current technology there would be some way audibly to move them out from the pier. Just a noteworthy nuisance.

Sea birds are like sea mammals and are legally protected from harrassment. Consider yourself lucky that flipper and cousins were not eating your catch. And guess whose fault it would be if you hurt one of those suicidal birds?

Those gull and terns are keying in on the dead and dying baitfish.
Ever see pics of salmon streams after they die off?uke:

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
