Just heard from his son that pirate John passed away on 5-21-2014 The family buried him with his rod and reel. RIP and tight lines forever my friend.

Only fished with John a handful of times. A little rough around the edges but was always a pleasure to be around.

Sorry to hear that. He was a real character and had some tales to tell in that raspy voice of his. RIP

I hate to hear that, my wife and I were asking about him on the pier last week. We were afraid that might be the case. I liked John a lot, love the part about being buried with his rod and reel. RIP and good fishing John!

Rest in peace John. I will see if I can find a more recent photo.

Didn't know him, but seen him on the pier quite often... RIP.

Thanks, I'd wondered about him being AWOL from the pier for a while :-(
May he fish eternally with the Good Lord!

I was watching a video that someone posted, maybe a couple of years old about the "running of the bulls" I think, anyway John was seen running back and forth a couple of times in it. He was crusty but a nice guy. I helped him load that monster cooler/pier cart into his truck (and his van after he totaled the truck) several times.

Really enjoyed the few times I was around him....he could tell some stories....
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
