WD-40, are fish repelled by it?
I don't use it on lures or terminal tackle, but I know people who do (mostly for catfishing). I have read that it is 90%+ menhaden oil with just a bit of petroleum product, others say that's not true.
I've got a friend who sprays his rods with it after rinsing them.
Real Magic has gotten really expensive, I paid $14.95 for my last pump bottle at Academy and WD-40 does seem to be a bit better at preventing rust.
I'd like to hear opinions and experience.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Well, maybe I should have Googled first.

They say no fish oil, but that still leaves the question about whether or not it repels fish.

I knew a gentleman years ago who swore by it. He fished mostly in the Mississippi river for catfish and did quite well.

BTW, I do NOT recommend using WD-40 on anything other than rusty hinges and certainly not fishing tackle. It displaces water and breaks down grease and oil which actually protect your reels. It is OK for cleaning old grease off reels or reel seats but it is not a lubricant that will stay on bearings or protect metal parts.

Some say WD 40 attracts fish. not a repellant.
"I have used WD40 successfully on lures off both downriggers and planer boards. I have lost count of the hundreds of salmon, steelhead and brown trout that have fallen for this unusual fish attractant. And, I am sure it's the WD40."

We've used it, with success on catfish, but never tried it in the salt.... Good question
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
