Water Temperature at the pier
Does anyone keep up with the water temperature at the pier. I am told that Bull Reds will be abundant when water temp hits 65 degrees. And some people say Speckled trout will be abundant in grassy areas in Perdido Bay when water temp hits 65 degrees. Any truth to this temperature guideline.
Wish someone at pier would take water temp at a certain time every day.
Thanks,
RedfishJohn

Re: Water Temperature at the pier
You can check the water temp at Buoy 42012 and it shouldn't be too far different from the water at the pier.

[font=comic sans ms][size=12pt] There is a link to the buoy under the weather link in the drop down menu on the right side of the home page.
Water temp is 73.8 right now.

The bays will be more quickly to change temps... The flats have fish now.. IMHO river mouths are tough to beat for trout right now

Re: Water Temperature at the pier
Thanks Dawg;this will give us another data point to look at.There are three other sites to look at for daily, and hourly coastal water temp. The Okaloosa Island pier home page;after 9am each day, has the water temp at the pier, and morning catch report.Bouy station PPTA1 at Alabama Point is at least hourly on its water temp.data(this is water going through the pass,so the temps will jump around from day to day,and depending on which way the tide is runing[out going tide may be colder or warmer because the bay is shallow, and its temp changes almost as fast as the air temp],so incoming tide gives a better Gulf water temp. The site from Rudgers U.gives sea surface temps.(go to rudgers sea surface temps),from land sat data, but it is gives us data on a large scale(Ala/Miss line to Key West Fla)and will show, this time of year and in the spring;warm patchs moving along the beach. This gives us the answer;why are they catching king at one pier and not at another or where to go to catch a late or early season king.Todays imagery 11/6/12, #19 shows warmer water coming out of Perdido Bay,and moving along the beach to the east. These imagery are dependent on clear skies, clouds block the sat.from seeing the water, and no data is found in those areas of cloud cover.Water temp is key and bait is secondary to the success of catching king from our piers, both in the spring and again in the fall;went water temp reachs 65 along the beachs at all the data points in the fall its time to start thinking about next spring,or traveling to south Fla,or long boat ride to the Loop current and the rudgers data will show you how along a boat ride it will have to be.Good luck. Thanks again Dawg.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
