    Veterans day

Today is set aside by our nation to pay tribute to our Veterans. For most, its just another day. For some, its an opportunity to reflect upon the personal sacrifices by people just like you and me that believed and acted upon a desire to serve the nation. Many don't even know that each and every one of them took the oath of office. That solomn moment when we swear an oath to defend all of us. Ever had to take an oath and sign documents? A contract binding your entire life for the sake of your job? Hardly. Veterans are unique. Their the best of us. Their patriots. Their entitled to being given credit for being a part of us that keeps freedom a reality. Not a wishful thinking. Two nights ago, I stood in line with a vet with only one arm that was his original body parts. Everything else was prosthetic. His only complaint was to say that he had to wait another 48 hours to get his new legs! I have been honored to have walked among GIANTS such as him for over 4 decades. They are beautiful!

God bless our vets, and the United States of America for which they served!

State Parks to Offer Free Admission to Veterans on Nov. 11

    Friday, October 30, 2015 - 3:30pm

In honor of Veterans Day, Alabama State Parks will waive the entrance fee for veterans at any of its 17 state parks on November 11, 2015. Anyone who indicates they are a veteran will be admitted into the park day-use areas without charge. No identification will be required.

Veterans have been leaders in the development of state parks and other public lands across the country. Several of Alabama’s state parks were developed with help from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which employed numerous veterans.

“Our parks and public lands are places for reflection and serenity, and they stand as a tribute to those who have served our great nation,” said Greg Lein, Alabama State Parks Director. “While Alabama State Parks is still working to maintain full funding levels, it is important to honor our veterans and other partners who make our parks system possible.”

Alabama’s 17 state parks are conveniently located throughout the state. From the mountain ranges of the north, to the beaches of Gulf State Park, recreational options abound including lodges, camping, golfing, fishing, boating, hiking, biking, swimming and much more. For more information about Alabama State Parks, visit www.alapark.com.

I am greatful for their service to our great country, but im saddened by the lack of actual support.. a combat vet should have 100% free healthcare at the best facilities in the US. they should never have to pay a fee at any government facility. I think we(our elected aristocratic swine) have done our soldiers an injustice. its a shame you dont have to be a combat vet to serve in the senate or house....

If there is among you those that believe it's easy to serve America as a soldier, airman, sailors or marine then I suggest you consider how you'd feel if you went to work and was mangled by something job related and your boss toldyou its too bad.that charity would take care of you. That the waiting list for care may or may not be provided. It took 40 years for my own uncle, sprayed by Agent Orange, a defolient used everywhere to receive proper care by the va. 40 years. Most died waiting for care that never came. I know. I buried too damn many younguns. If you don't want a department of defense then say so. Billions upon billions of dollars is paid monthly by this government to those who never worked because they know how to push a jackass button. Yet, our girls and boys, often crippled by enemy bullets are remanded to the back of the bus because they possess a moral compass.

As a 27 year vet myself, I say thanks to my brothers and sisters who stood with me then, and to all who still serve on that wall now. Well done, good and faithful servants, and God bless this great country.
