I am still laughing. That is hilarious. My late father, who was a superb bass fisherman, used to laugh at folks fishing the banks with cane poles... called it turd fishing. This takes his notion to a whole new level. Just shows, like ice fishing and so much more, if you really want to fish you will come up with a way.
Thank goodness we have a pier...

I'd love to do some ice fishing for big walleye. Built an ice fishing pole for crappie fishing, but would much rather hook something that pulls back

If I lived there, I'd likely be ice fishing with the best of them, especially if I could still drink schnapps and/or brandy to keep from feeling my toes fall off or when I cut myself on the icicle hanging from the end of my nose. "Was that a bite? Nope, just the thud when the temperature fell another five degrees."
Can't believe it's 78 degrees here in Clarke County this afternoon. Not to worry, though, it's supposed to warm up tomorrow before the wind comes out of the north.
I think I'll skip the Texas fish fry.

Ironman,
Where you from that you get that much ice? Just got off the lake myself. I'm driving out on 14" now which is early for us in Northern Wisconsin. I spend November, March and April fishing off the pier and have for 40 years and love saltwater. I was taught most of what I know from the old timers on the old pier but, most are gone now. Still have a lot to learn and got some education from haywire this November. But, alas, I'm not ready to give up hard water fishing yet either. Each holds unique and different experiences.
The root beer schnapps went down well today. I like the Strikemaster ice auger and Plano minnow bucket in the photos. Actually I have the same ones, that's why I can ID them.
Have fun guys and I'll see y'all in two months.

Did a lot of ice fishing growing up in northeast PA, we caught a lot of pickerel, perch, bluegills and crappies.
Fun times, we'd set up the Coleman stoves and cook hot chocolate, Italian sausage & pepper, and deer chops.Carl
Life is too short to drink bad beer.

It's really not bad on a sunny day, no wind,in the high 20 or low 30's....something to do anyway in central Ohio on a sunny winter day....I am not a hard core hard water fisher....and that one location I won't do by myself anymore since I found a 2in soft spot in 20ft of water, with 10inches of good clear ice.....luckily I was walking fast making a move when 1 leg went through....just drilled a hole not 3 feet from where I went in.....
just sold the gas auger, we haven't had any good ice for over 2 seasons and still have the hand auger if I decided to go this year....I don't mind using it up to 8inches or so.....but the year I bought it we had 16 inches of ice and no way I wanted to ever hand drill that again

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
