haven't used them but I've heard mixed reviews on them, although I haven't heard anything about them recently. Some people swear by them, others swear at them. What size reels are you looking to replace, and what is your budget?

Have you thought about Okuma? I've had the same reels for 6 years now and they are still catching fish. The smaller 30 size has seen better days, its been overly abused, but my 45 and 90 size work great, fairly smooth drag, and the bait clicker is way louder than on my penn.

but to answer your ?.. no, i've not used them

I'm looking at the tsunami shield 5000, I want a shimano stradic but that's out of the budget. I have a shimano teremar 8ft x heavy action fast tip rod that I use for throwing lures and spoons with, the reel that I have on that rods is not the best rod and is on its last leg. So my budget is under $150 but it has to last (with proper care)!!!

I've recently seen the spin fisher v on sale for 70 or so. I picked one up but haven't used it yet so can't give you much of a review. I've been using a daiwa BG pretty hard for a few years now and its been great. Managed some 20+ lb stripers on it and it slings metal and plugs with no problem. The BG is usually around 100 give or take.

Trying the diawa bg for the last couple trips on the kings trolley rod, caught multiple 25lb and smaller ones with no complaints at all.....smooth drag plenty of line capacity on the 5000, actually slightly larger then expected, .... in your budget that would be my choice, and have money left over
mine was new on ebay for maybe 90, + free shipping

Checked ebay and the price has increased a little since I got mine.....as stated by fordguy 100.00 +

I've got 3 BG's now, they are great. Love them on my surf rods, great line capacity. Going to add some more, they are my go to bassin' spinning reels now also.

If you haven't purchased something already, I can recommend Fin Nor Lethal and most of the Penn spinning reels. I've had a Penn Conflict, battle, clash, and fierce for a couple years and all have done well despite my rough treatment of them. The Penn reels are easily serviced, even by someone like me who has zero mechanical skill.

Daiwa BG reels get excellent reviews, so that would be another one to look into. If I was getting a new reel, it would likely be a Daiwa BG 3000 to pair with my 9'6 steelhead rod for casting spoons.

    2016 Daiwa BG - AlanHawk.com

Alan gives it a good review, going as far as saying it has some components you normally find on reels several times as expensive.
