Thanks to the woman that unhooked me.
I don't know if you come here or not, but to the woman who helped take the three sabiki hooks out of my back Sunday night (and kept me from going to jail for assault) thanks. I am horrible with names and I apologize for forgetting your name. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I still don't know how someone on the east rail can hook someone leaning over the west rail.

OUCH!
You fall victim to the infamous Sabiki Brigade?

I had been there for a few hours and had all the whiting that I cared to clean and was getting mad at the specks that was not biting, so I went down almost to the octi to pass time catching bluefish until the mack run. Some of our fish harvesters were on the other rail slinging big sabiki's. I am leaning over the rail working an LY on a cork and feel something knock the crap out of my back (yes he got me with the weight too) then I know instantly I was hooked. Sad thing is he really set them in me when he whipped the rod forward. I know that accidents happen on the pier and I pray that I never hook someone but I would not start yelling if you had to destroy my lure to get it out of someone. The fact that he started getting angry when we destroyed the rig to get it out of me is what made me want to feed him to the sharks. I love fishing the pier but if this keeps getting worse I am going to have to find another place to fish. This was the rare occasion that I was there alone, usually my girlfriend is with me and if it had been her getting hooked like that and he reacted the same way there would have been a thread on here about how some redneck from north Alabama went and started a war and destroyed everything on the east rail. If I have offended anyone with these statements, I apologize but there are many times that I stand around waiting for a safe time and place to cast. I try to be thoughtful of the other anglers on the pier and I wish that some of the other ones would do the same.

I am very self-conscious when I am slinging bubble rigs, because I tend to throw them clean off, and out into the Gulf. But I always watch the four meters around me and will wait for folks to stroll by before I start my windup. Last week this little fellow with a "got rice... " t shirt is hurling his Sabiki east and west with reckless abandon. The white rod looks like a javelin and the weight on the end appears the size of an 82mm ChiCom mortar round. On two occasions I hear the "vhoop" as the rig sails by my ear. We make eye contact, and he never even blinks... so I went to the shallows and fished. I chose not to engage, but I think if he had hit me, I would have been a bit angry if I had not suffered a concussion.
Now before someone jumps in sanctimoniously... I was not being an ugly American. The t shirt actually DID say that and his rig WAS huge. It's just kind of sad when an old, retired convict guard has become so PC that he won't even challenge inappropriate and dangerous behavior. I merely retreated to the shallows to end my trip, doing what I came down for. I just wanted to fish the pier.

I know we have a lot of pier rules, and sometimes enforcing them turns ugly. But it looks like its time to establish a length limit on sabiki rigs. What do y'all think? Before someone gets badly hurt?

Really Bill!! As for length limits on the sabiki rigs, I don't see that one going anywhere. We have enough rules and some (including me) think there is too many rules. If anything is done it should be handled as the issue with the sheepshead. Limits should be placed on skipjack and hardtails. Placing more rules on HOW we can fish will only cause more problems.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
