Thanks to the regulars
6 years ago, Jerry Parnell, a dear friend and a member of my church and a former Park Ranger there, badgered me about the opening of the new pier to the point where I relented and was there on opening day. I was NOT disappointed. I readily recognized the need to adapt to pier fishing. There were many kings caught that first day. None had my name in it. I decided that day to give the pier my good faith effort to learn from you guys and gals and to try and fit in. Nearly all of you lifted me upon your shoulders and carried me. Today, 6 years later, I've amassed dozens of rods and reels, comfortable catching almost all species of fish and look forward to sharing my fishing with fine people. I think it's important to thank those who give of themselves to help, encourage and mentor googins. You are a blessing to your peers, reflect great honor upon your community. Thank you!

I've been pier fishing off & on since 1982 and still learn a thing or two from the guys (and gals) standing next to me. And always willing to help anyone who needs it, as are most others. That's what makes GSP such a great place.

Ditto...
Since 1972 when I was gladly 'shown some of the tricks' by many of the "locals" and "regulars".
I've always tried to carry that forward ;-)

I must say that everything, and there is much room for more, that I have learned about pier fishing came from those "regulars". Realized very early on that the two eyes, two ears and one mouth technique was the way to go!

Ditto here as well. I grew up on the water. Mom says I learned to swim about as fast as I learned to walk and I was fishing almost as fast. A few years ago when I was introduced to the Salt Life, it was different and I was a total newbie. Lots of great folks have taken the time to help me learn a thing or two everyday that I am blessed to be able to go. I count myself fortunate to be able to pay that back whenever I find someone that I can help, whether it be to net a fish, borrow pliers, share some tackle, or just swap some stories or advice. That's one of the great things about the pier and this site. There are always folks to look up to and learn from, folks on your level, and those that you can mentor along the way. That's what its all about!

Thanks to everyone for responding. I've been fortunate to have fished all over this world. From Korea, 16 pound sledge hammer stunning tiney trout under bolders to Hawaii fighting bullhead dolphin to cod in Washington state. Battling huge blues off the eastern seaboard and hand lining in Australia. Yet, they seem to pale to the wonderful people I share the octigon with. What would we do without Lou, Leroy, Tater or Tommy? Without the David's for ribbons? Kimmie, T-Bucjets mom who exemplifies a true Akoha spirit? We are so blessed. Being a Veteran of two wars I know too well not to take for granted these angels unaware. The make us look good!!
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
