Thank you
Just wanted to come clean that I have been lurking here the last month and learning a ton about fishing your area. I feel bad that I am just taking from the site and not giving anything back at this point, but I guess I have to start somewhere. I have fished salt a few times during spring break trips with the family, but have not had much time to really learn it. Now that the kids are older and like to do their own thing I am going to have the opportunity the first week of April to spend some time figuring it all out.
This forum is extremely helpful. Probably the best exchange of information of any of the sites that I belong to. I have been able to get a good idea of where to start and what gear to bring down. Plus I won't spend the first half of my trip just trying to figure out how to catch something. Reading all of the reports and advice has gotten me very excited about the trip!
Thanks again and hopefully I run into a few of you on the pier in a couple weeks!

I'll be there the 6th on, don't be shy, depending what you want to catch, come right out to the end unless they are catching on your way out, then just jump right in with what they are using (gotcha, looney jigs, bubbles, carolina rigged, ) fresh dead shrimp, live shrimp, fiddler crabs for sheep head....might make the first trip out to see and meet (plus fishing)
Oh and welcomeBill..............

Watch closely the ones that are catching fish and how they are rigged and how they are doing it. Then compare their rigs and actions with others that are not catching. After watching for a while ask questions about what you do not understand. Most people on this pier are great folks and willing to share knowledge.

One of the best parts of pier fishing is being able to see what others are doing and learn from the more experienced "old salts". I credit much of my fishing success to things I picked up from others on the piers. It's also a bunch of fun to watch someone else on the pier catch a trophy. I can't say that the feeling is the same when you're out on a boat and you see someone catching fish out from under you and can't figure out why.

There are few secrets on a pier. I usually fish the PCB City pier but coming for a short trip to GS at the end of Sept. An example is when cigs are scarce and you find a place with a few biting cigs. It won't be long till you have several others fishing beside you. Its ok and everyone still catches bait. I do the same. When its slow on the end we look down the pier to see what is going on. Sometimes a school of Spanish are in shallow water. Go down there with a spoon or bubble and join in the fun. Just look around and see what is going on that day.
Pier fishing is streaky. Sometimes the bite is from daylight for only 30 minutes. Sometimes the kings come in from 9am to 10am. Sometimes the south wind need to pick up or a storm needs to move in. The best advice is to and go to the pier and have fun and learn from others.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
