    Tarpon Fishing

Anyone ever try floating a live blue crab on a cork off the octi for Tarpon? Usually those are tarpon candy and if they're around, I'd think they'd bite.

Also, what's a good rig for the snapper bottom fishing, I'd like to try bottom fishing off the octi with some live ly on a large circle hook during July for some of them famed snapper we've been seeing, and If you catch a red snapper off of the pier, what are the rules (aka do you have to report it, etc.). Thanks just wondering about some new things to try.

A blue crab will net you a tarpon, cobia, redfish and black drum--as well as occasional sharks. Nothing wrong with fishing a male blue crab.

That said, I have caught most of my tarpon using blue runners, mullet and large lures.

Haven't seen the red snapper (other than juveniles), since the day before the 9 day season. It is possible they were caught by an evening angler, or were simply following the news and knew when to leave the pier.

If you catch one, though, yes it must be reported.

I might try drifting a blue crab one day, but I think I'll stick to free lining Ly's and sardines haha. Thanks for the info, I'm not up to par on my regulations on snapper but I know the limit is 3 per person and what's the minimum size and how would you report one, is there an app?
