Targeting Flounder
Any one have any experience targeting flounder from the pier this time of year? From what I've read on this forum, Looney jigs alone or with maybe Gulp lures with on a carolina rig could be effective. Any thoughts on this? Also, would I have better luck going to Perdido Pass?

Flounder fishing on the pier seems to have slacked off lately. Years past saw a number of fishermen targeting Flaticus Delicioso. The primary way was with bull minnows on a carolina rig. Weight varied from 1/2 ounce to a couple ounces depending upon conditions. Current and high winds being the primary challanges. Jigs would follow closely with light colors. Tipping the hook with fresh shrimp pieces or even sting ray wing strips help. Bull minnows bumped along the pier is the primary method. Jigs are cast paralell to the pier and slowly retrieved with a bump bump action. Some of the flounder hooked on the pier can ve quite large and a good hoop net is needed. Success seems to be spotty. Some days can be great. Some, not so great. Your apt to hook something else too. Night fishing in the shallows can be productive too. Same methods under lighted areas.
