    Surf rod

I couldn't really find anything in search so I'll post my question...those of you who regularly surf fish, what surf rod do y'all recommend? I currently use a Berkley Tri-sport 10' 6" that was my pawpaws from like the 70's with a 706. Damn good rod it's just about wore slap out. I want to go to 12'. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something that could be as durable as this Berkley. Thanks! Oh, I may be willing to trade an Ironman gaff for one of equal value.

The Penn surf rods are pretty good. Just bought a 12' Prevail from Walmart for $100 earlier this year. Nice heavy action for slinging bigger baits/weights out. From there you have the Battalion 12' that is about $120 or maybe a bit more at Gander Mountain. If you want to go ultra heavy duty Gander Mountain carries the Penn Torque 12'. That thing is an absolute beast. Can't remember the rating on it but pretty sure it would handle 10oz+ of lead. Wanna say the price on it is around $150+ buy can't quite remember.

Thanks for the info rockinchef, I've been thinking about one of the Penns. I'll probably go with one of those, thanks again!

No problem. The Prevail is perfect for me. Mainly use it for larger baits bit has a light enough action to be used for medium to smaller baits as well.
