Thread: Super Moon and Fishing

Does the Super Moon have any effect on fishing, based on opinion and experience?

In and of itself, probably not much of a 'big deal' as far as fishing is concerned.
But these next three full moons are coincidental with maximum flow lunar tide cycles which could have a profound effect on fish movements during those periods.
TWO full moons in January 2018 (1st and 31st).
Of course (as always), the predominant weather conditions could easily compound or negate those influences ;-)

A full moon, on a clear night and clear water illuminates the surfzone pretty well for most of the night.
The amount of light is about equal to twilight, and many fish species can use that to feed.
Coincidentally, the high tide peaks a few hours after sundown, which IMHO could increase (or prolong) evening time fish feeding activity by whiting, redfish, seatrout and black drum, probably bluefish and possibly even pompano.

I would be curious to hear any first hand observations...

Back when we had the super moon and blood moon eclipse in September a few years ago we ran into something I haven't seen before or since. We caught Pompano at night around the octi with the spadefish. They were circling the lights together. We probably released 15 or so and kept our six between the two of us.
