    Suggestions for new rods?

Morning y'all. My son Tyler and I have been fishing the pier for about 4 years now doing 2 to 3 weeks per year. Needless to say we are hooked, no pun intended. I have been gradually upgrading our gear. My next move is to get new rods to go with our Penn Fierce 5000s. These will primarily be lure casting rods. I want them to be able to handle xrap 12 and 14. I prefer a lighter rod with some action to it. I cannot stand fishing with a poker. I like a 7.5 foot rod but would go up to 8.5 if that's going to help with casting distance. I don't want to spend a fortune but I also don't want dime store crap either, so let's ballpark the price around $100 each. So I have plenty of time, can't come back down until Spring Break, give me your thoughts on best rods I can do and where to get them so I have them when I come down next or pick them up when I get here. Thanks for your opinions. Love this site!

Within your price point is the BPS Redfish Extreme 7' 6" M
I have one and like it a LOT for that kind of work, plus more ;-)

3 words J&M Profile Rod it's 8 ft and around 75 dollars in store. I got one last year and it is the best Rod I own.
Go Vols, I don't mind Nick Saban, but Lane Kiffin just bends the rod too much.

Tsunami Airwave are nice 2 piece rods in 7, 8, and 9 feet. I have them all and would throw a x rap with either the 7 foot or 8 foot rod. Another choice is the Cabelas Saltstriker rods. They make a 7.6 foot in either a 1 piece or 2 piece that would work great with a Fierce 5000. Of course wait till they run a sale and hope a store is near you. I bought a couple of the Saltstriker rods for about $60 each and they are very good rods. I do have a store 7 miles from me which makes it nice,

I have a couple of those Profile rods and I love 'em, but they may be a tad stiffer than you want---they will chunk a bubble further than you can get a Spanish back to the octi from (sharks) and do a real fine job with Gotchas, etc. I like the stiffness so I can use 20# braid to have a chance of horsing a fish in to avoid the tax men.

Haywire, are those Profile rods 1 piece or 2 piece? I keep seeing all sorts of designations for rod types... boat, surf, jigging, spinning, inshore, etc. So far, I haven't seen a "pier rod". Any of these types you'd recommend?
