Stradic Ci4 size help
I'm going to build myself either a Baston XP963 or a IP903 for casting small ly's for spanish on my trip in October. I need a reel. I'm wanting a Stradic Ci4 but I'm not sure what size to go with. The baitshops around here either dont carry them or only have up a 2500 size. I was thinking about the 4000 series just incase a king takes my bait. But I also dont want it to be over kill. I plan on fishing 8lbs line and maybe some braid backing. What do you guys think? Any advice would be awesome since I cant actually hold the reel unless I buy it. Thanks, James

If you were to intend to just go with mono (8#) I'd concur the 4000.
But if you mix with braid (say a 100yds of 8# or 10# backing) I'd suggest the 3000 will suit you well.
It weighs a little less than the 4000, but the same as a 2500 yet has more line capacity the 2500.

Do you think the 4000 is overkill for spanish? Like I said I cant actually hold it unless I order it. The 2500 is the biggest I can get my hands on

Yes.
Check out the specifics @ Stradic CI4+
2500 140 yds 8# mono
3000 170 yds 8# mono (21% more line capacity than the 2500)
4000 240 yds 8# mono (42% more line capacity than the 3000 and almost twice as 2500)
Yeah, you could just about king fish with that ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.

I like a little more,(just in case)....and use 4000 series, smaller works fine till it doesn't....I am not a ultra lite fisher ,but might if I ever go to the shallows
I think what I was using last year was over kill for spanish, I bought the rod as a lighter king rod but used it for spanish with the 306 on it, did well for both and slung a baby ly real good .. I believe it had 10lb line on it .....one of my favorite set ups now(still getting use to the manual roller)
throwing jigs I went with the stradic 4000 and love that, also would throw a cabo 40
I think for whiting or pomp's, I would use the cabo 20Bill..............

i have a 4000(older model)(9.3 oz) ci4 and a 3000 ci4(newer model)(7 oz) i use the 4000 mostly for spanish and i have caught jacks on it id suggest you get that and with 8 foot rods i think the 4000 would match up better and i do not think its over kill at all. i use my 3000 on my duckett mostly for bass, flounder, and trout. by the way great choice on for your next reel very smooth ,very light, awesome reels my favorite reel when i want something in those sizes. hope this helps

Got a call from my buddy John who owns a local bait/tackle shop telling he ordered me a 4000 and would have it Monday. Cant wait to get my hands on it. Just gotta order the stuff to build the rod.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
