Thread: Storing King rigs

Hey everybody, this is my first time posting here as I have been researching and reading a lot on here the past few monthsand just want to say thanks for all the helpful info! My question is do most of y'all just make your king rigs or leaders on the pier when you need one or is there a good way to store them without them getting slinkyed or tangled up? I use 27 lb single strand.

Some people make cool leader storage tubes, but I just tie them in a big overhand knot and throw em in a ziplock bag.

very similar to what fish finder said, I curl them twice and then do an overhand knot

I make them up ahead of time and store them two to a zip bag. When (if it ever happens again) there's a bite going, I don't want to be spending time making up leaders while people around me are hooking up fish.

I just put them in a Plano box that fits in my tackle bag.
Normally use 27# single strand as well.
I make my leaders about 8" long, I've seen other guys making them 12-18" long but I've never seen a need for that myself.

I attached about (15) 1/4" PVC pipes approx. 10" long to my pier cart. Slip a leader per pipe and when I need one just pull it out. Only thing is I have to unload it every time I get home. Cart stays outside and the hooks/leader will rust if I don't bring them in, no biggie though.

I have no experience fishing them yet, but I did make a few and this is my first attempt at storing them: I got one of those cheap HOLLOW floaty noodles from Wally World, cut it to length, then inserted a scrap of PVC pipe inside the noodle. I think it was 3/4" PVC conduit actually. Anyway, it fit snug. The conduit does not allow the leader to dig into the inside of the noodle when I go to pull it out, and the hook on the end of the leader can be buried into the soft foam end of the noodle. Don't remember exactly, but I put a few each in a couple of these tubes. Seems like it will work. Time will tell.

plano box for me with them curled up with a couple overhand twist to hold the circle usually will do a dozen or so each night or as needed to top off the box, also I have the extra trebles and swivels in there too....once in a while I have gotten stuck sitting and making a few on the picnic table when the bite has been good, but mostly sharks except for 2 years ago when the kings chewed the pier down in the spring.....what a day or 2 it was

If you know of a Crafts 2000 store....you can buy a hundred or so 2" by 3" plastic zip bags very cheap. It keeps the rigs/bags separate and will generally fit in a small area of your tackle box/bag. Don't completely close the bag which will allow for quick opening and will force air out which will make the bag take up less storage room.
