Thread: spring trip

:fishing:I've been lurking in the background soaaking up all the fishing info for the past couple of months. I and my old friend are making the trip from the Huntsville area early Thursday morning. From the long range forcast, looks like we might get wet. Gonna fish anyway. Never caught a king, would love too, though. Hopefully we can catch something to put a bend in a rod. Hope to meet some of the guys I've seen posting.

Good luck getting your first king. You will need to fish toward the end of the pier for the best chance of hooking up. Remember to keep your cart behind the red line out there and don't leave your rod unattended on the rail. You might miss a fish or worse yet it may get trampled by accident by someone who's hooked up on a fish. Be ready to let someone go over or under your line-rod and maybe even reel in to get out of the way because a king may go all away around the octi or run straight to Key West on the initial run. Try to cast your bait into the wind and follow your line around the rail. Hooking and landing a king is sort of a community effort. Be nice to the guy or girl next to you since you will need a perfect stranger to gaff your fish and haul it up over the rail. Most of the locals will be glad to help so if you don't know what to do just ask. I live up in your area as well. Make sure you make it to J&M Tackle in Orange Beach. They sell king rigs, cigar minnows, bait rigs and components to make your own rigs. Hope you catch a beast.
