Spring Breakers ?
I am heading down on Thursday the 21st, to visit my in-laws.
and plan on doing some fishing.
How bad is it trying to Surf Fish with the Spring Breakers there ?
I think I may bring my Boat down too. to fish the Bays.

Re: Spring Breakers ?
Most college/hs age spring break folks are not thinking about fishing. oke:
The young and the adult folks are no special problem for fishermen whenever they come, March or July.

if they are around all the condo's surf fishing is very difficult from the swimmers in the water....might have to go else where for that where there aren't the massive line of condo's .....or early in the morning then maybe late at night.....that's why I hit the pier, plus the people there are great to fish aroundBill..............

Re: Spring Breakers ?
I have been going down as a Spring Breaker for 15 years. Most spring breakers look forward to some entertainment on the beach when you catch something. If you are in the water early, they will avoid you for the most part. Besides, tide changes occur when it is too early to swim and during nap time, so you should be fine.
I encountered some issues with swimmers when fishing at Daytona Beach a couple of years back. Ignorant New Yorkers thought that the beach was their's and kept drifting into our lines.
Oh! If only I could have set the hook!

Re: Spring Breakers ?
A nice quiet beach is located west of Gulf Shores. It is a State Park beach, I think the locals refer to it as " The Dunes". You take Hwy. 180 W, Ft. Morgan Rd., to Mobile St., turn left and go to the end of the road. It is a beautiful and mostly a lightly visited area. There are a few residences, but no "amenities" like bathrooms or a store. Speaking just for myself, it is a surf addict's dream.

I won't tell anyone, actually I was looking at Google Earth and it looks like there are several good spots out that way.

Re: Spring Breakers ?
Kevin, if you looking at Google Earth, look at Grant St., which is just before the entrance to Ft. Morgan. It is a coarse road that was once paved. Gulf Shores Marina have live shrimp, and you can launch your boat at Ft. Morgan. If you are not familiar with the bay, I would suggest that you have someone with you that is familiar. Hope this a great trip for you and your family.

Re: Spring Breakers ?
If you guys are parking on the old beach road on the left right before you get to the fort entrance please be careful. The last couple of big strorms and careless drivers have all but eliminated most of the asphalt on this access road. I have pulled out six vehicles already this year of people trying to park as close to the beach as possible to avoid walking. My suggestion is to park in the hard pack sand just off of Fort Morgan Rd unless you have a 4x4 or have actual experience with driving in sand, in which case you can venture closer to the beach entrance to park your vehicle. There is no room to turn around in a low clearance vehicle once you get down there and park if someone comes in and parks behind you- dunes on one side and up to a 12" vertical step from the sand where you park and the remnants of asphalt rubble of years gone by. I NEVER mind helping a fellow fisherman out of a tight spot but some of these folks have used zero common sense and I just have to shake my head.

Educate me a little bit if you will. What are good turbidity numbers? If you can check those stats and determine what the water looks like before you go, that would be VERY helpful!
