    Spooling tips 706z

    Hey guys just got a new 706z (thanks rich1) .should I spool the reel with straight mono or back it with some braid? I will be using the reel on piers and in the surf . I have 8' and 9' rods at my disposal.thanks guys all tips will be greatly appreciated .

    I don't know the line capacities for braid vs mono for that reel. If you will be king fishing and are concerned about line capacity, you might fill it halfway with braid of the appropriate line test (maybe 20#?) then fill the rest of the way with 16# Momoi. 300 yards total of line should handle just about anything you can reasonably expect to hook off the pier or from the surf. If the reel will hold enough mono, I wouldn't go to the expense of braid. Good fishing.

    If possible I would take it to J & M and get Johns input and go ahead and let them spool it. I don't use braid backing just a big enough reel to hold around 300 yards of 16lb. Momoi. James spooled my smaller reels with braid when he worked there about 2 years ago and never have any trouble with them.
