Spanish Mackerel
Hey all! I am new to the forum and had a question. I am heading down to gulf shores the first week of February and wondered if there would be any chance of hooking into a few stray spanish mackerel? I have never tried fishing during the month of February and would like to know if its worth my time? Any other species/tips for fishing this time of year?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Spanish Mackerel
Spanish are not the featured fish this time of year, but this season there have been some caught in January.

Re: Spanish Mackerel
In the past, I had caught some in February from the west jetty at Perdido Pass (averaging every few years).
One February I caught two in one day from the old GSPPier.
With the current weather pattern and water temp, I would think either of those places to be almost a 'sure thing' this February. :headbang:
Other fish to be caught: sheepshead (getting better every week), bluefish, whiting, drum, redfish, rays and a few stray flounder and pompano.

Re: Spanish Mackerel
Thanks for the input! Much appreciated! It sounds like I will have to give perdido pass a try and hopefully pull a few out :yay:
