Snapper Season
Has anyone else heard rumors of further restrictions on Red Snapper? I've heard of a possible 27 day season, lowering the creel limit to one per person, or even 1/2 per person. Doesn't sound good for the charter boats...

Re: Snapper Season
[font=comic sans ms][size=12pt]Snagged this off the Orange Beach Community fb page.
FYI:
“For anyone who cares about fishing or the money spent in this community needs to show up at Hilton Garden Inn, January 16 at 6 pm to vent your frustration The Gulf Council is working on determining the 2013 quota for red snapper and is also considering reducing the recreational bag limit to 1 fish as a way to increase the number of fishing days. Other ideas they have floated include 1 fish per two people on the boat. ----
Decisions like this not only based on very flawed science but will directly impact the economy of orange beach. With the prices of gas increase if is no longer worth going out to fish when only one or two fish are in season and only one or two can be kept. The recreational weekend fishers spend millions in orange beach on fuel, ice, tackle, boats and maintenance. The continued mismanagement of our resources will not stop if we don't show up in numbers to complain. The commercial (not charter boats) have the money and lobbying power they are not the ones who are cut year after year.”

I attended the meeting last night in OB & was truly disgusted how it all went down!!! As a resident of OB, this is truly dis-heartening & I feel as if it is a slap in the face....The meeting was poorly presented, the presenters couldn't answer half our questions & it left us all hanging....Sad we have been fighting this battle going on 10 yrs. & all that has taken place is shorter days & smaller limits of catches....The worst news I heard last night was they are basing their study off of 2009 data.!.! We need an up to date report taken off of OBA reefs & they will see what we deal with every time we fish...tons of nice size snapper being caught & having to release....disgusting feeling for sure!! Alabama needs to break off & go non-compliant & we will see tremendous change...which is needed!!! I truly feel for our charter companies, area businesses & our local economy...we can't withstand the money that would be lost if this ridiculous law passes!! Everyone is encouraged to write our state officials & let them know we DEMAND CHANGE!!!!
