Re: smith lake AL stripe bass?
Ahhhhh - Smith lake, never targeted stripe there, have caught some in a few bass tournys - but I've heard that the next state record (I assume you're gonna be after the big saltwater striper) will come from there. I've also caught them by accident in Weiss, Neely Henry, Logan Martin, and Lay lakes).....They're fun to play with, but they can tear up any plastics you throw at them.....Good luck - hope somebody who lives up that way will chime in...

Re: smith lake AL stripe bass?
I've never fished for them on Smith (even though I live 30 mins from there) I have a friend that has looked into it and he said everyone is very hush about the bite or how to fish for them, I know there are several guide services on Smith for those big Stripe.

Also if you have a little free time you can catch Rainbow Trout below Smith Lake Dam there small but good eating, its the only place in this part of the state that I know of that you can catch them.

Re: smith lake AL stripe bass?
I have caught those trout before it is alot of fun. Its a very beatiful area below the damn. As for the stripe in the lake the best i can tell is i need to troll creeks in 10 to 30 feet of water. im gonna give it a try.

Re: smith lake AL stripe bass?
Yesterday afternoon we trolled umbrella rigs. We were in 160 foot deep water and we were trolling about 30 feet down the fish were suspended from 50 to 30 feet deep. We saw alot of fish on the lowrance but only put two in the boat. one was about 6 pounds the other was about two. but it was a beautiful afternoon. We are about to go try it for a while this morning. If you know anything about smith lake the area we were fishing was in the mouth of clear creek and back toward the mouth of brushy.

Re: smith lake AL stripe bass?
Try 1oz. white jigs on the points. A Cordell Red Fin 6'' long on top reeled slow with a wake will bring them up from deep water. I fished Rock Creek and those Baits worked fine. I thank they will be fine up lake. Good luck :fishing:

Re: smith lake AL stripe bass?
today we trolled umbrella rigs in the morning with no luck. so we switched over to spoons in 20 feet of water jigging them strait down and we absolutly smoked the spotted bass. It was a great day for fishing. Blue skies not to windy not to cold it was just right.

A good way for us to all "calibrate" the turbidity numbers will be for people to report their general impression of visibility pretty often (including time of day) at the station. Which brings up...
