    sheepshead question

I was wondering if the sheepshead were at the pier in numbers and weren't biting or weren't even there yet. I would have thought with the water temps up they would be really biting by now.

From what I gathered, the bite was on for a couple of weeks and died near the end of last week. The only sheeps being caught on the pier are being snagged/snatched. Even then, I have only seen about 5-6 over the last 2 days.

The Fishing Reports section has daily posts about fish activity. If you read over the last week or two of posts, you'll see that they've had some great days, followed by some really slow ones.

Be sure you are logged into the website to view the reports.

The sheepies were on fire for about two weeks, usually in the morning and from the shallows all the way to the Octi, but died off rather abruptly. IMHO due to a drop in temperature again and muddy water from all the rain. Ask the experts but I think these convicts are sight fishers. Although we've had a mild winter, it's been a cool spring. The regular sheephearders are trying hard but not coming up with much. Were not even seeing them around the piling anymore. Don't know if that will pick up again or not.

Ok Thanks Fshntime. I saw you had a limit and a few others but it just seemed like right when it was turning on, the reports stopped coming. Also thanks for all the reports, I enjoy reading them.

The sheephead bite on my charter trips took a dip during the cold snap but is picking back up. They are leaving the bay pretty fast now that the 68 degree temp is top to bottom. i would expect them back in the surf shortly!
