    Shark Question?

If you catch one, is it legal to beach it to get the hook out and then release it?

I guess you are supposed to cut it off. What about the hook and/or leader?

It depends on where you are:
    From the pier = NO
In the State Park = NO
    in Gulf Shores = NO
    in OBch = NO

Any where else (IF it poses no danger to swimmers) = YES!

I was thinking about the shark having the hook and leader still attached.

    It rusts out fairly quickly.

Bring some long handled bolt cutters. If you cut both sides of the hook it'll fall out very quickly. I'd prefer the fish not to have a hook/leader hanging from its mouth for weeks/months waiting for it to rust.

Newer hooks stand up very well to saltwater and I would specifically avoid using stainless steel hooks for fish you intend to release.
