Shark fishing near Ft Morgan or Dauphin Island

Hi, I started fishing the area this year and desperately want to catch a bull shark or any shark for that matter. I have tried surf fishing and only get cats. Now that I have a boat, where can i go to hook in to one of the beasts? Near the lighthouse? Bait ideas? I am a noob so the more information, the better please. Thanks in advance.

I second that, Dixie bar will be your best bet. Any fresh cut bait will work.

In my experience the larger ones are between the Dixey Bar and the ship channel on an outgoing tide, usually closer to the bar but still in deeper water. I think the stuff they scavenge on sweeps out of the bay on the current and then gets caught against, or slows down, as it comes to the bar.

We don't fish for them, but for reds and kings. We have caught some nice kings in that hole.
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Are you anchoring near the bar, floating around, or trolling at 1-2 knots?

All of the above at different times.

Don't use remade shark rigs with giant hooks and aircraft cable. A heavy King rig will get you bites.
