I was in Gulf Shores last week and was amazed at the number of sharks being caught on the pier. I counted 12 caught in 1 1/2 hours. One of the guys handed my 7 year old his rod with a shark on and gave my son the thrill of a lifetime.

Mako is on par with Swordfish, and demands a high market price
Thresher is right up there too.
Most common in our area and very good on the grill are Blacktips and Atlantic Sharpnose.
    Spinners are good too.

    Steak or fillet, chef's preference.
On a big shark I'd recommend processing it as fillets, then cutting the fillet into steaks.

If you are going to keep a shark for dinner you should fully process it immediately.
At the very least this means bleeding, gutting and getting it in ice.
Failing to do this will result in meat smelling like its tainted with ammonia or urine.

    Shark fishing 101

Are you going to wade out and cast baits in the surf or yak baits out?

Like I said shark fishing 101- must admit this crappie fisherman didn't know anything about that! So I ain't quite sure what I'll do but I know it don't include wading out in the surf at night to set a bait!

Yep. I have kept blacktips 3 times. Each time I bled, gutted & iced them quickly. Twice it was great on the grill. Other time is smelled like ammonia so bad we couldn't eat it.

This may be the perfect opportunity to use a drone for bait drops. I'm sure that a decent drone can handle a small ray or large-ish hardtail.....
