Live bait or or fresh dead fish. If you walk around the point there are 2 points of interest to look for 1 is where mobile bay and the gulf meet there will usually a ripple in the water that is a good place to try the other is casting out to the red bouy. There is a nice drop off there in the water and it is within casting range is my other favorite place to try for sharks. I would provide you with an overhead view but I dont know how. Maybe somebody else can or tell you where else they to like to fish for sharks. Also most other places along the beach can produce.

Bottom rigs with wire leaders a big circle hook, and a long heavy mono leader if you want to really catch them. Fresh cut bait (Usually bluefish or bonita) work well, or even a skate wing. I always wanted to catch a decent 6-7ft from the surf with spinning gear but it never happened. One day

On a related not there's always that myth that shark blood in the water repels sharks. Maybe someone should catch one elsewhere and dump some remains there at the pier at the cleaning station. Just one idea that won't get you arrested. Honestly I think its just a population problem combined with opportunity. Even at Okaloosa with flipper they still have their good days too.

The best bait for sharks is what is readily available in the water, their normal prey, the ones they're naturally feeding on that day.
E.g. Yesterday it was fresh Bluefish that got Hammered for me... Nice Pun, http://www.gulfshorespierfishing.com...255/#post83043
Fresh & Frozen Bluefish got more hits/runs than Bobo, Mullet & Ray.
    It was what they wanted.

From pier and boat, we catch 4-6' Spinners & Blacktips all the time on medium to heavy spinning gear.
6-8' rods with 15-30# mono on anything from 5500SS to 9500SS Penns, short seven strand leaders of 15-40# wire and 4X trebles.
Catch them all the time while fishing for King macks from the pier, 704z, 20# MONO and a King leader.
Do pretty much the same in the surf.
Except I'm fishing 8-12' rods with 30# mono with long 50# shock leaders on Penn 8500SS/9500SS, with 4' 135# leaders and 16/0 circles.
These setups baited with half a mullet catch both sml-med sharks and big bull Reds.

Big Spinners or 4/0 for casted rigs, match pole to reel & line weights.
Castable leader: 16/0 Mustad 39960D circle on approx 4' of 135# coated cable, 3-8oz pyramid weight.

For yakking baits out from the shore.
    Minimum 6/0 conventional
    Better 9/0
    Much better 12/0 (recommend)
These reels on 5'-7' stand up rods in 50-130# class, prefer standard guides.
Yak leader: 20/0 Mustad circle on approx 8' of 480 lb. 49 Strand Stainless Steel coated cable, 550# swivel, 500# coastlock, 550# swivel, 20-30' of 500 lb. Primeline Monofilament, 550# swivel & all double crimped together.

pokenfish, cowroy and TUCK like this.
    Ragnar Benson:
Never, under any circumstances, ever become a refugee.
Die if you must, but die on your home turf with your face to the wind, not in some stinking hellhole 2,000 kilometers away, among people you neither know nor care about.
