The link below is a must have if you are not aware of the Alabama Saltwater Limits and Regs. Print ya a copy and stick in your tackle box. “Sorry officer I didn’t know.” Is not an acceptable response if you get checked.
The regulations for commonly caught species have always been posted at the pier on huge boards next to the pay windows and at the mid platform.

is this the first time that Alabamas had limits on sheepshead?

Yes, that went into effect last month.
Hopefully now the sheepshead stock will be protected from (at least some) over harvest.
