sabiki behind a bubble?
I've been considering my next trip down and had a crazy thought (maybe its already been tried... Probably has). I'm considering using half a heavy duty sabiki (3 hooks 30 lb branch line anchored by a 3/4 or 1 oz pompano jig behind a mostly empty bubble. Thinking that the jig will provide enough weight to cast without tangling while the bubble will allow me to retrieve and keep things in the strike zone as well as splashing a little. Anyone see a potential problem fishing for Spaniards this way?

They make those multi hook Spaniard lures with a Clark Spoon on the end. I have used those trolling and have taken the Clark Spoon off and replaced it with a heavier spoon so I could cast it. I have not put a bubble in front of that because it was too much dang trouble just like it was - even trolling.
I caught a few doubles, but they tended to run small (young dumb fish was my impression). When I caught a double, the rig got tangled about half the time and I had to deal with that so I lost time with bait in the water. IMO, way more trouble than it was worth.
I wound up cutting them apart and using the tubes to make other lures.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

This thing is what I was using. When I put "Clarkspoon 4 Hook Mackerel Tree Rig" in Google I see that West Marine is dumping them for $3.19. I don't think they sell very well.

That's very similar to what I did in Maine for Atlantic mackerel, but I had a lot of success casting a full sabiki with a diamond jig on the end. Often I'd have three or four fish on.

Too much possibility for tangled messes IMO.
Just buys some cheap double jig spec rigs to put behind the bubble.Carl

Actually it's against pier rules to cast a sabiki rig overhanded but you know how well any rules are being enforced.

That's a lot of gear to lose to a shark
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
