Rod Help
I have a question. Would recommend buying a custom rod from J&M or have someone on this forum build me one? I'm looking for a King rod that I can snobble with and throw a live bait as well. Looking to spend between $150-$175. Thanks in advance.

Nuthin wrong with 'off the rack custom'...
Unless you have a lot of experience to make a judgement of which blank to use, guides, etc. or trust someone enough to make that recommendation (or decision) for you it is hard to beat the tried and true method of holding the rod in your hands to see if it is the right one for you.
just sayin ;-)

Thanks man. My buddy has one and really likes it. He's caught a few decent fish on it and has never had a problem.

It is hard to beat J&M's rack rods built in house.
Pier Pest builds great rods too, and might have something sitting around already built.
One of those two would be the way I'd go.Last edited by FinChaser; 04-29-2014 at 04:24 PM.

In all honesty I'm just looking for a rod I can rely on. I go down to the pier 4-5 times a year and stay a few days at a time. I've always used my buddies stuff and I'm kinda getting tired of that. I recently bought a 706 and now I'm just looking for a rod to go with it. I don't want to spend an outrageous amount because I don't go down enough.

unless Pier Pest has a basic build laying around itll be hard to beat the price and quality of a J&M rod.

Webster,
I have a J&M rack King rod -- all black with gold wraps. One year old... only been to the pier three times. I had my Penn Battle 6000 on it but I have recently sold it. I'm asking $125, and seriously doubt you'll find a better deal.

Webster, I would jump on that deal right there. The rod blanks that they use for their rods are great and reliable. Just had John build me a full custom rod on one of those blanks. Awesome cig slinger.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
