    Reel to match my rod

I’m building a medium weight 7’ rod with a fast tip to sling 1 oz. lures at Spanish, Pompano, Ladies and Blues from the pier or beach. Do y’all think a 4000 size reel to too big/heavy for retrieving that size lure? Should I go smaller? I figure I can use it for a bait set up, too.

If you are thinking 20# braid a 4000 Penn would work (260 yds).
But IF you want a lighter rig, go with a 3000 and drop down to 15# braid...

-what #er said. That setup is one that I use from the beach and pier when I'm lucky enough to be there. Either a 3000 or a 4000 size reel, 15-20 lb braid or 8 lb mono depending on other factors. It works well with a looney jig, or small bait. Actually, I think thats the same rig I used to fish for specks in little lagoon from the dock behind the gssrc condo in january.

Hey, I guess I was right!! When I get these 4 guys to agree with me, I now I’m in an elite, educated and experienced group. Did I lay that on thick enough? LOL. Really, thanks for the replies.
