redfish
ok, I heard from a good friend of mine that people were catching redfish on Fort Morgan road, and if so, what are they biting on? live bait? dead bait? artificials? just built a knew 10'6" surf rod and am dying to catch some reds and or spanish on it. All responces will be greatly apprieciated.
I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.

My personal favorites for a Red in the surf is a fresh chunk of mullet or a large live/freshly dead shrimp.
Those will entice both Red & Black drum.Ragnar Benson:

I caught a nice slot red 25" off the beach on Dauphin island a month ago. I was bait fishing with a piece of cut finger mullet (belly) on a double drop with chartruse teasers. Caught one the same way at Mexico beach in Florida on salted shrimp. The one on Dauphin was no more than 20' off the beach. Fish for something else and you'll catch pups.

I've been using cut mullet for years. The fresher the better, but it's not perfect. It also seems to be a favorite for the ever present sharks. That being said, I believe sharks are legal on Fort Morgan. Either way, you'd have a good battle...

Ya I had that rod on Dauphin Island in a sand spike with the drag set really light. It was an 8 ft light action Ugly stick. Nothing was biting and I had drug the bait in to just outside the wash. The good thing is it was the angle was so steep because of the closeness of the beach the fish came right to the top and did not fight much. I only had 10 lb line on a little Silver Max Abu bait caster. But it still banked a nice puppy drum. The one in my picture. The hooks and rigs are almost as important as the bait and the placement of the bait, how far from the beach on the bar in the cut more important than that.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
