Questions about fishing style
I was out at the pier one day last fall and there were a couple people snatch hooking sheepshead. Is snatch hooking legal here?

Yes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's non game fish only
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Yep, its legal. And a snatched one tastes just as good as one caught a live shrimp!

Don't mean to ruffle any feathers ,and I realize it is legal to grab hook sheepies, but I certainly do not think that makes it right . It is legal to shoot ducks sitting on the water ,but it is the frowned upon hunter that does .

Re: Questions about fishing style
You can snatch any fish you can shoot with a spear gun, this includes sheepies and cobia. And :fishing: Snatching them is as hard as makin them eat. I prefer killn em with the crab, but nothn wrong with the silver cricket

Re: Questions about fishing style
It's difficult for us Northerners to understand the legality of using snatch hooks, since any foul hooked fish is illegal to keep in most Northern states. However, that being said, I have witnessed the process for over 40 years off GSSP pier and understand it is a sport in and of itself. One of the many different lifestyles that make visiting the Gulf so interesting. I have viewed and even tried using a snatch hook but it is not as easy as it appears. The only issue I have with it is when the pier gets crowded, it seems to be dangerous... but most of the guys I know will back off and not do it when it gets crowded.
