Queestion on Charter Boat etiquette
Hey guy's I've been invited on a 2 man 6 pac charter {free to me} I at least want to do the tips ---- what is appropriate ????? I also want to take 1 of my own rods for maybe a cobia shot or whatever???? Any info would be greatly appreciated thx jjm
Edit by Bubba: I normally do not do this, but I edited the title so you would get more helpful responses. There is a lot of debate over the no drinking policy on the pier, and I think most people who saw that title assumed this was a discussion of that.

Re: 6 pack info
Usually the tip is 10-20 percent of the charter amount. But if you have a great time and catch lots of fish its not a bad idea to tip more. Now if you don't catch fish, it is still nice to tip as well. Those captains and deckhands are up many hours before you working and preparing everything for the trip and some of them work only for tips.

Re: 6 pack info
I always tip 20%. Even if you dont catch a lot of fish, the deckhands still do a lot of work. Everytime I have been out, they provide entertainment.
As far as taking a rod. I always take a 706 with me, regardless of the boat or location. The time of year dictatesd how I rig it, but I have it rigged along with a small tackle box so I can rerig.
What I will do if there are King is catch one or two, then start hooking up and handing my rod off to kids and other tourist types who have no clue. I like to see other people catch fish, just as much as I like catching fish.
Only had one issue with a deckhand who asked me to stop, cause no one wanted to bottom fish anymore, They just wanted to catch king
Edit: I dont know if this is taboo or not, but if I am with some one who really wants to catch a cool fish and I see a deckhand putting a trolling rod out. I will hand him a $50 bill and tell him, "that guy really wants to catch something if you hookup." No one ever said they couldnt do it.

Re: Queestion on Charter Boat etiquette
I usually pay half the cost for the tip since the woman would be paying all the cost of the charter. Sorta like netting all the sheephead, helping clean, then take 50% of the filets, if ya knows what I mean!
