Maybe not a TOTAL waste...
At least you can learn about how to do it ;-)
April - Oct is 'jig-n-tyme' IMHO

I can't buy a pompano on a jig. I don't know whether to drag it, hop it, bounce it, or burn it. Nothing seems to interest them. I have never seen them and cast to them. I can't seem to catch one from the surf either. I did have one morning that I had a limit in 30 minutes on frozen raw unpeeled imported walmart shrimp on the pier back in late June. The wind was howling out of the East and Mr. Thornton netted my last one (about 2.5 lbs). The wind was so bad it kept blowing his net back under the pier and away from my fish. The day before was when I had caught my first ever pompano. I managed to catch about 8 more the rest of the week to take home.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
