plans
we enjoyed ourselves so much that we are already planning a trip for next june. the drive is not too bad, just a bit long, but we are wanting to make it a more-than-once-a-year trip. are there any times when the fishing is slow and not worth an 8 hr drive? what can we expect to catch during different times of the year?

Re: plans
As a fellow 8-hour plus driver who doesn't think the drive is all that bad and makes several trips a year down to fish.....here's my thinking for what its worth:
I try to stay away from going too early....made a couple of spring break type trips in March that were basically blanks. This year the kings started in in April. The regulars said that this was an unusual year, though, and it's usually May before they really fire up. Weathermen talk about a "new normal," so there may be a new normal on kings, too. June and July have been great for the last three years that I can vouch for, with some exceptional days. I made my first trip in October last year to a Spanish frenzy. Big and lots, LOTS, of them. A small LY had a life expectancy of seconds once he made it to the water on a hook. Ultra light tackle was glorious.
Beyond that, I try to plan my trips to stay away from neap tides and full moons, but sometimes weather conditions override both of those negative influences it seems to me.
