Pier net
I made my own pier cart. Just finished my gaff tonight. Now all I need is a pier net. I'm coming down august 22 and need to hurry and order one unless I can get one down there. I will probally stop by bass pro in Spanish fort, I'm sure they will have one. Any certain kind I need?

Re: Pier net
I bought one at Walmart in GS it was about $35. I put a snap ring on my gaff rope so I could use it for both. I would recommend buying some good rope. First so it want tangle while getting it out. Second so its big enough to pull it back up and not hurting your hands. And add a float to the end of the rope in incase you drop it..

Re: Pier net
Just a decent 32" hoop net like for crabs, will do the trick... I bought mine at Bass Pro for ~$35.
Most come with 50' of cheapo polypropylene rope, exchange that for the same footage of a good 3/8" twist or braid nylon rope.
In case the rope gets dropped over, add a buoy to the end of the rope, so it can be easily snagged.

Re: Pier net
you made the other 2 things....why not a net too....the hardest is finding the netting oke: but still doable(I made mine) .....or J&M has then too.... last I saw
I use to bring a big landing net, that the handle came out of and used it(without the handle)....the only problem was the aluminum tubing was sealed and held air, and the metal wanted to float...the next year I put bb's in it and that worked OK....till I made one out of stainless rod after finding a replacement net over in Panama city :fishing:
I have also seen these and thought of purchasing for the compactness for traveling
http://www.popnetnets.com/
could also make one out of some kind of flexible tubing.....still need the nettingBill..............

Re: Pier net
Just keep in mind those poly nets are only good for about a season or two or until the first big spanish bites right through it and drops back in the water.
Don't ask... :-[ >
Anyway, it was worth the extra few bucks (for me) to get a heavier gage webbed net from Bronson's Net Co. in Foley :headbang:
P.S. They do custom and repair work too ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.

My net lasted halfway through one good Spanish bite day. Had to resort to wire ties to patch multiple holes.
I had it refurbished at Brunson’s in 2009 and, problem solved!

Mine too.....but refuse to put toothy's in it now.....with that said.... I don't mind putting holes in perfectly good fish oke1:, that are going to see a knife anyway.....and the ones big enough I can't reel up are big enough to gaff, with my small spanish gaff
thanks for the Brunson link Fin :headbang:Bill..............

Re: Pier net
Hey Fin, those wire twist ties will patch a net in the heat of battle right on.
A large paper clip will work too! :headbang:(RETIRED) mostly.

Do you recall what the netting for your drop net cost from Brunson's?

Educate me a little bit if you will. What are good turbidity numbers? If you can check those stats and determine what the water looks like before you go, that would be VERY helpful!
