Pier Fishing Passes
I have not fished much since my wife died. Yesterday I was told that Veterans will no longer get a reduced price on daily or 6 month or annual pier passes. I am waiting on a call back from Rob Grant #2 in DNR state parks, also from the Alabama Dept. of Veteran Affairs. When I get more information on people to call and write to, I will post that information. The more people write and give their feelings on this the better!!

I hope that's not the case , If it's true that's so very Wrong

Yep just called and checked was told Vets already get a daily discount so they did away with 6mo and yearly passes. Guess I have something else to email Montgomery about.

I hope all you Vets out there are as unhappy as I am about this. Please let the Park Managers know about this I probably don't fish the pier enough to justify buying the yearly pass now. Used to do it anyway just to avoid the hassle of having to pay every time I walked up.

I was going to get my pass March 1st, looks like the money grubbers found a way to have Vets pay for some or all pier repairs and get a yearly bonus for being clever and finding "extra" money to spend! Wonder how many Vets buy those passes? Not happy!!!!

I think that not only vets but SENIORS should qualify for a discounted price. Many older citizens are living on social security/fixed income. I propose this, because I haven't seen it anywhere. Why don't they offer a LIFETIME PASS for Vets and Seniors or in the alternative, a few bucks discounted price for the occasional visitor? A LIFETIME PASS would allow them to afford much needed renovations NOW like the previously discussed improvement on the cleaning station area!

I got a call from one of the Park Rangers awhile ago and he said he wasn't aware that they sold a 6 month or yearly discount pass to Vets and he wanted me to email him either my receipt from the purchase or the pass itself. So if anybody goes to the pier ask about it if you still have either and show it to them.

Do a little math....I did....I am pleased to get a discounted daily rate being a vet.....6.00 vs 9.00
6.00x 365 days a year =2,190.00....a yearly pass is 321.00 (less then 1.00 a day to be exact .78 less then the cost of one looney)....paying my 6.00 discounted rate I could fish 53 1/2 days and break even on the yearly pass.....with 300 + days left to fish for more or less .......free
Trust me when I am there I appreciate the daily discount that some contribute to a fund so vets recieve it....
.be happy to have a pier and a very nice one with accommodations others don't on the gulf coast
If I fished 1/2 the days in the year.....it would average $1.75 per day.....why complain?.....
don't get me wrong my middle name is (CHEAP) and like to get things cheap......but I also see a bargain.....maybe not like the florida piers yearly rate.....but they don't have the extra's gulf shores hasBill..............

Vets pay the same as everyone else for monthly, 6 mo., and annual pass so there's no discount there...
As for repairs to the pier, it's failing on all levels. Rotten deck boards and screws sticking out. Cleaning station is filthy and brooding ground for disease. Cant remember last time pier was washed off with all the bird crap on tables and rails. Chunks of cement beams missing, but that's OK as long as they stick a red cone on it. Not to mention lights on the octi havn't been working for 4 1/2 months. No soap in bathroom dispensers...i could go on and on, but you get the point!

Well maybe if I was there more, I would see more.....itching is part of me at work....when I see things people know about it..... in my older age I am not bashful.....wish you guys get it the way you want it.....usually at work I end up fixing/ correcting it myself , especially if it's the truck I'm driving that day and responsible for it when it hits the road
Bill..............
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
