    Penn Fierce 6000,7000,8000 for kings

Hey guys, I am looking for a new reel for king mackerel and saw that someone suggested the Penn Fierce, which is in my price range at the moment. Between the 6000, 7000, and 8000 which would be best for the octagon? Also what lb line would you suggest using? I have seen some people like to stay around 15-17lb while others like 20.

I would get the 6,000 and use 15lb line.

Several threads on here discussing that topic. I think this one is the mos recent

    http://www.gulfshorespierfishing.com...new-king-reel/

There are also several threads on line type and size as well as leader how to.

Search function from home page will yield all sorts of goodies.

Tha said, you'll mostly see 15 or 16 mono. Some even use 12. Some all mono, others a top shot of mono over ~20 lb braid.

    Get the 5000.

But, out of the three mentioned, go with 6000.

Larger ones will hold tons more line capacity, but that's it. The unnecessary size and line capacity will just tire you out with the added weight and will never get utilized.

It not only looks like a bargain, it is one. That is on par with internet order pricing when you factor in reel spooling. If you consider convenience John and company's deal kicks the internet order houses' butts. Lay your money down and you're fishing in less than a half hour, as opposed to ordering then waiting and hoping it arrives on time undamaged.

You will NOT beat this deal anywhere.

Good news is the 6000 rod in the combo is the best one. My son owns the whole Fierce series, and the combo poles aren't that great, but the 6000 has never given him a lick of problems.

    Take this deal.

Great deal on the combo. One note about the line. After going 0 for 12 this year on 16, I upped the line to 30lb test just to get some fish in the cooler

... So far it has worked oke1:
