Party boat rod
Thank you Haywire and Big Dawg for the info on the boat rod. I'm not sure what I will make yet but based on your imput I have changed my thoughts. I'm thinking about a 2 piece, 8' with a 2-5 lure weight now but that could change. What do you guys think of a rod like that?

I have an 8' 2pc Ugly Stick Spinning rod that I use in the surf and would have no problem putting a conventional reel on it to use as a head boat rod. I'm not sure if it's a 2-5 oz but it's a medium heavy action. Have used it on head boats for kings at night in lights off the back of the boat on overnight trips. I have also used it to catch snapper with a 7000 class spinning reel on it. Personally I have no problem using spinning gear on head boats, they just have to be stut and have a reel with lots of line capacity because you fish so deep at times. Therefore, I wouldn't worry about the rod being convertable. JMHO.
